Puntarenas

We were a small group of 4 people and had late lunch .. Service was good and the waitress very kind. We have eaten here many times so our expectations were reasonably high and reasonable The anticucho starter that we ordered was really poor, four very tough pieces of meat over a boiled potato,and the ceviche was about half the size that we normally receive. We nearly always order these starter so we were expecting soft and juicy meat and a nice flavourful ceviche, all of us were incredibly disappointed. We ordered a couple of main courses as well to share and the portion sizes here as well have really reduced in size in the past 6 months, They were more like childrens meals. We were all pretty disappointed by the whole meal and for sure , unfortunately, we won't be going back. There are a quite a few other Peruvians restaurants that are far better

Went to Puntarenas for late lunch yesterday. A great afternoon with excellent food and excellent service. We were a group of 4 and from the moment we arrived to the moment we left the service and ambience was excellent. They were very patient with us as we took a long time ordering and eating as we were chatting so much. Unfortunately they did not have the wine we ordered but they appeared with two superb bottles of Marques Fiscal reserve which more than made up for the wine that was not available from the menu. From the Ceviche and Anticucho to the filled mussels with tomatoes and onions and then seafood rice and finally a sweet suspido lemeno. ( Lemon cream) the food was just delicious and the service great. It was a great afternoon and is one of my favourite places for lunch/brunch

Have visited puntarenas many times as was one of my favourite restaurants for lunch. However since the pandemic it has changes such a lot.The service used to be excellent, but on this day the staff were just on their phones and totally ignoring their surroundings and at one point for around ten minutes there were no staff in the restaurant at all. Normally there are some snacks to eat while you wait for the meal to arrive, but we were told that the chef had not made any that day. They did bring out some fried patacones about half an hour later which was welcome as the food order was incredibly slow . On ordering I would say that 30% of the menu was unavailable, from the starters , main course and sweets. Also some of the wines we chose were also unavailable. It took nearly an hour to get our starter , fish ceviche , which I guess was due to defrosting the fish as it was definitely not very fresh but more like a soft defrosted mush and the pried whole fish was super dry , really dry. Such a shame. Would I go back, Well yes I will go once more as the day I went may have been an off day for the chef and the staff, but if you are the only ones in the restaurant I would expect better and quicker service. I do hope they change the menu to reflect what is available and give the new staff some serious customer service training. Let's hope it will be a good memory next time

Always good for late lunch on a Saturday but was a little dissappointed as so many dishes were not availble from the menu so finished having what was available rather than what we wanted. Many of the ceviches not availabke again and neither the cabrito. These have not been available for many weeks. I hope that they will address this problem as everything else is very very good and we like the food. Even though we had to eat what they had , the food was very good.

Excellent food and excellent service. Have tried most of the Peruvian restaurants in Panama City and this is by far the best for quality Peruvian food and great service. Just go and try this one restaurant
