I had a nice experience at The Raj last night. Julie was our waitress and she was on top of her game...the men just seemed to be standing around waiting for Julie to handle everything. Anyway, samosa to start, nothing special and I wouldn’t get them again. The breading was very hard and the corners were too hard to chew. We had 2 chicken dishes, tikka masala and the 14 spice one. Both were tasty and had a good amount of heat. We had the Chana masala chickpea dish. Good flavor, the chickpeas were a little hard but no biggie. The only other thing I would say is, if you are trying to be Indian...take the beef dishes off the menu. That was really weird(in a bad way).
Damn damn damn!!! Why can’t the waiters and waitresses just let us find a table to sit and eat at? So much pressure. ‘Sit here, ven amigo’. Blah blah blah. Really takes the fun out of what could be a fun experience. I certainly would never tell a tourist to visit these clowns. Once you do sit down, the service is horrible, f’n horrible. Yes, the fish is great, patacones también, shrimp appetizer was fantastic...but, I’ve been there 5 times and each time it gets more annoying that I can’t just sit where I want.
Keep in mind that nothing here is healthy and you will definitely have a full belly when you leave.
So, saw this place on oferta and then looked it up on Degusta. 35% discount on food and easily accessible on Balboa, I’ll give it a go. 7pm, empty. The waitress/hostess was great, from seating to paying, great and friendly service. The spot is on the 2nd floor of a little shopping center, surrounded by other restaurants, almost like a fancy food court. Samosas were fine, mostly potato, but no complaints. Really enjoyed the green and brown sauces that accompanied them. Garlic naan was solid with a good butter to garlic ratio. Aloo ghobi was ok, a little oily, but definitely ok. Tikka masala and vindaloo looked great, and the portions were good, but both lacked and flavors. The vindaloo had heat, but that was it. Neither of these could ever be considered again. Totally boring, definitely not curry-style. Overall, presentation was good, but flavors were just so muted, probably won’t return.
Ran through Fish Market again today. Service was much better than my last few trips and so was the food. Pulpo tostada appetizer was the dish of the night, great flavor, lots of octopus and definitely not rubbery...$12 is a lot though. This tuna burger was good, packed with ingredients and not dripping in sauce. Fries were good as were the patacones. The grilled dorado got mixed reviews, a little fishy and over salted. I’m happy to have had a good experience, as this was a donor die visit.
Not what it used to be. Just picked up a shrimp and a Hawaiian pie. They were both a little under cooked and the crust was rubbery. Definitely going to stick to the obarrio location or just go to a better place all together. This used to be a 9, now it’s a 6, nothing special at all here.
Tantalo is great. You will always have an above average meal, good and friendly service and see beautiful people. Dishes are 3/4 size, so you tend to order 2-3 per head, which can add up. Solid dishes, octopus, coconut curry chicken, margh burhi chicken, plantain empanadas, paprika potatoes, and the beef medallions should always make it to the table. I feel like the drinks(beer, wine, etc) are overpriced, but what can you do. $4 Balboas have become the norm in Casco.
Been here a couple times and the one in Coronado, can’t say I’ll be back. The place is cool Nd is decorated nicely, the staff is friendly and on point, but the food wasn’t anything special. Seafood soup was watery and my corvina was very mushy. The purée was very salty and the ice tea was all sugar. Maybe they have a better dinner menu and I shouldn’t expect much for an ejecutivo lunch...but if you are going to sell it, make it good, please.
1. Every time I walk up to the counter they ask me to same question, have you been here before? It doesn’t really matter how I answer, because you don’t give me any follow-up question. So, why open with that?
2. Way too bright inside to sit and eat, so it always has to be to go.
3. Always disappointed with my food here. The only reason I go is because it’s fast, cheap and the place across the street gets it meat from Machetazo. Today was my last visit, sorry.
I can’t figure out why this spot gets good reviews. I find the staff to be distracted and not into helping their clients, the ingredients don’t seem fresh, maybe canned or prepped a couple days in advance and the place has no energy. I’ve only had the pizza so maybe the other things are good and prices seem to be in-line, but with so many choices, why go back?
This is my 2nd favorite pizza place in casco, I eat here fairly often. We had a guy as our waiter who obviously lacked training. I’ve seen him here before, but not as a waiter, more as a server. Anyway, pizza didn’t have as much flavor as usual and the whole experience was just ok. Maybe it was just an off night.
