This al-fresco restaurant is located parkside in Panama city's touristy colonial district, Casco Viejo. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was average. Two of us shared a big surf & turf platter. It had very good ceviche. The smoked salmon was edible but not at its freshest. Two large prawns were overcooked and dried out. The rest of the platter was chunks of chicken and hot dogs. Both entrées claimed to come with focaccia bread, but it was NOT. It was grocery-store pita bread. They don't seem to understand what focaccia bread is. Our sangria was pretty good. The third of us, a pasta lover, ordered the pasta with chicken. It was in a white alfredo style sauce. She didn't like it at all and did not finish it
I feel bad giving them a negative review because they were nice and friendly but overall the food didn't earn a good grade.
We went here for lunch. Normally I shun touristy places, but it was one of few options in the struggling mall where it is located.
We went at 11:45 buy they didn't open until noon so we walked around and came back. They were featuring a lunch menu for around $13 or $14 but they mentioned they also had a Panamanian lunch special for $8.99. It came with a small cup of Panamanian chicken sancocho, then the main dish was either arroz con pollo (chicken &rice), a pork chop, or their take on ropa vieja (pulled pork). Accompaniments were pigeon peas (guandules) & rice, potato salad, and ripe plantains. A soft drink was included in the price. The 3 of us all picked the ropa vieja.
To my surprise, the food was excellent. The servers were having a good time running around singing and dancing and hollering and putting on a show but the service didn't suffer.
I haven't been too impressed with this chain in the past but I must say this lunch was a pleasing experience
Great place, ample menu with good combinations, fish not overcooked. A mix of Panama favorites with a few Mexican dishes. Tres Leches dessert was done right Attractive location with friendly staff - who could be a bit more attentive. Dinner for three was $85 less tip. I would certainly come back.
DISAPPOINTING The ribs taste like they were parboiled. I think they are pre-cooked and finished at the restaurant. The server assured me that they were cooked "for 45 minutes" which anyone knows is not enough time to slow cook ribs (3-10 hours to do them right).. These taste as if they were certainly pre-processed and then heated up. Not a hint of smoke flavor. The grill marks looked painted on.
The server was friendly but clearly overwhelmed. My 2 companions both got mashed potatoes and neither liked not finished them. I tasted a bite and the cheese topping tasted industrial. The strawberry iced tea was syrupy sweet and did not get finished either.
I expected more but it will be a long time before I eat at Tony Roma's
A nice place for breakfast - 3 of us visited one Tuesday morning. I had a ham & cheese omelet with café con leche, a companion had a crepe with a fruit shake, and the other had a ham & cheese croissant with hot chocolate. Each breakfast entrée was between $4 and $6. The server and the guy working the front who seemed to be the manager or owner were very friendly. Everything was great and there was nothing to complain about. I would go back any time and I recommend this place. It is very convenient to several hotels including the Hilton Garden Inn.
